In his trail debut, Roman Kirkov finished 2nd this past weekend at the Rogue Gorge 50k to Brooks sponsored Jared Bassett. Bassett ran a winning time of 3:37:45 to Roman’s 3:43:06. Ryan Maize was 3rd, in 3:54:41.
This was Roman’s first race with other competitors since the CIM marathon last winter. Roman had a solid build-up for this race, which for the first time included many 3-4 hour runs on the trails, while maintaining a lot of the same types of sessions that he did in his CIM build-up.
While Roman came into the race hoping to win, this was a great first start to the trail world. With no other races on Roman’s calendar, his current emphasis will now be to gain some well deserved rest.
